Dan volgt toch een uurtje grootse en behoorlijk toffe actie. Michael Bay kan vrij weinig als regisseur, maar iets verwoesten en dat fraai in beeld brengen gaat hem goed af.
Voor een film die richting de 20 jaar oud gaat ziet het er ook nog echt verdomd goed uit, met mooi camerawerk en diverse gave standpunten.
Wel een beetje lafjes dat je 0,0 aan bloed en ledematen ziet, wat natuurlijk wel bij zo'n gruwelijke aanval hoorde. Ik begrijp dat het bij de filmrating zal horen, maar het voelt wel wat lame aan.
Saving Private Ryan liet al 3 jaar voor deze film zien hoe je de gruwel van oorlog echt in beeld hoort te brengen. Maar niettemin was het wel een cool uurtje.
En dan eindigen we weer redelijk suf, zoals we zijn begonnen. De epiloog met wat strijd tussen onze vrienden en de Japanners vond ik ook niet al te interessant meer.
Het leverde nog een paar Rambo-momentjes op die een beetje misplaatst waren bij een film als deze. Van mij had de film na de slag om Pearl Harbor en het terugvechten van Amerika mogen eindigen.
Sowieso duurt deze film met 3 uur een uur te lang om echt te kunnen boeien. In het begin hadden ze 3 kwartier mogen skippen en op het einde ook minstens nog een kwartiertje.
Dan had ik absoluut de film een hoger cijfer gegeven. Pearl Harbor is veel te langdradig en geforceerd aangedikt om nog eens af en toe op te willen zetten, wat ik met Titanic dus wel heb.
De al genoemde film Midway had met de perspectieven vanuit de militaire kant van beide kampen een veel boeiender uitgangspunt. Het is net een voldoende waard, maar meer ook echt niet.
Ik bedacht me overigens tijdens het kijken ook dat ik de film eigenlijk gister had moeten kijken, aangezien 7 december natuurlijk de datum van de aanval op Pearl Harbor was.

Simon Belmont. Ik vond dit best een goede film. Drie uur lijkt lang, maar ik heb mij geen moment verveeld. Want eigenlijk zit je twee films in een te kijken, namelijk een oorlogsfilm en romantisch verhaal.
Eigenlijk vormde dat laatste de hoofdmoot van de film, de band tussen twee jeugdvrienden en de vrouw die in hun leven verschijnt. Met op de achtergrond de tweede wereldoorlog met de aanval op Peral Harbor in het bijzonder.
Want er wordt ook ruimschoots aandacht besteed aan het bombardement door de VS op Japan, vliegen mooie beelden trouwens en zijdelings de verdediging van Engeland.
Degenen die een harde oorlogsfilm verwachten komen dus van een koude kermis thuis. Op wat spectaculaire beelden van het bombardement op Pearl Harbor na dan.
Degenen die dit maar bijzaak vinden en het een leuk decor vinden om een film over vriendschap te maken, vermaken zich prima.
