So when news of this remake broke I wasn't in the least bit surprised, the idea at the narrative core was ripe for further filmic delvings.
Niels Arden Oplev's version is itself problematic, and a long way from being all the things I so wanted from the original film, but at least it has its own twists, a supernatural slant for scares.
The makers are also to be applauded for making a truly bold decision in the story, rendering complaints about this not offering anything new as being redundant.
Chances are that if you are a fan of the original film you will hate this, if like me you have no affinity to it then this is an ok time waster.

In an attempt to learn what happens to the brain after death four medical students experiment with inducing death and resuscitation, and in doing so touch something on the other side that begins to haunt them.
Featuring Ellen Page, Diego Luna, and Nina Dobrev, the film has a pretty solid cast and a nice cameo from Keiffer Sutherland who starred in the original.
But the characters are a little underdeveloped and the conclusion is a bit anticlimactic. Still, there's a good amount of mystery to what's happening to the students and the chases and fight scenes are fairly intense.
And the directing style helps to heighten the drama and suspense. Flatliners doesn't quite live up to the Schumacher original, but overall it's an entertaining film that delivers some creepy chills.

That idea was abandoned in favour of a straight up film-remake, but still I was interested if for no other reason than the cast.

After sixty seconds, they panic as they are unable to revive her, but eventually manage to with the help of fellow student Ray. Later, Marlo, a rival of Ray, arrives and learns of the experiment..
Hear me out: The film wasn't the best thing ever and quite predictable, but it was watchable and I have definitely seen worse. Having never watching the original, i actually didn't know it was a 'horror' so that was a surprise.
I love Ellen Page and her acting continued excellent in this movie. If you're still on the fence about watching it, just watch it once and ignore the reviews like I did and I heavily base my watches on reviews.
