It's because of this that there is never any real sense of threat or danger. They don't hunt us, they don't care about us. All they want is nuclear energy and a place to breed.
What's worse is, these MUTO take screen time and attention away from the monster who's supposed to be the main antagonist and namesake of the movie!
It might as well have been called "Big Creepy Insects" instead of "Godzilla" In the end, what we're left with is billions of dollars worth of collateral damage and a big-ass monster who's really kind of a nice guy.
Still, it's certainly not bad. Aaron Taylor- Johnson does his best at looking very serious and all grown up since his Kick-Ass days, although I am certain that this is definitely one of his less compelling roles.
Our hero even shares an intimate moment of eye contact with Godzilla in the end Ken Watanabe spends every moment of his screen time looking shocked and awed Juliette Binoche is shamefully underused.
I would have loved to have seen more of her. The biggest asset is definitely Bryan Cranston. He's the only one who managed to make his character 3-dimensional and a real human being.
He, too, would have definitely deserved a bigger role. In fact, the film probably would have been much better for it. Visually, everything is very awesome and impressive.
The special effects visual and sound are top-notch. Every time Godzilla opened his mouth to let out a massive roar, I thought my eardrums were going to pop.
It's bone-chilling and very cool. The design of the MUTO is a real treat, they look like giant praying mantises, totally intimidating.
The films' SFX really make it worthwhile. I was seriously dreading the moment these giant "claw prints in the mud" would appear on screen, but thankfully it never happened.
I had really hoped that this was going to be the definitive Godzilla movie. Alas, it is not. But I still enjoyed it for what it was and I definitely recommend seeing it for the special effects alone.

A large battle scene was shot on Moncton St, involving approximately soldiers and many military vehicles.
Another scene was filmed at the fisherman's wharf along Finn Slough. Additional filming involving extras took place around industrial areas of Coquitlam , British Columbia.
The scenes at the Convention Centre stood in for the Honolulu and Tokyo airports, while other locations in Vancouver were used to simulate scenes in San Francisco, Tokyo and the Philippines.
Further on-location filming was done in June and July in Honolulu, Hawaii. In an interview, Aaron Taylor-Johnson described the filming as mostly on-location, with very little use of green screens.
He described the film crew as fairly small compared to other films he has worked on, "almost an independent production. Seamus McGarvey served as the film's cinematographer, shooting the film digitally using Arri Alexa cameras with Panavision C-Series anamorphic lenses.
Sequences of the film set in the year were shot using vintage lenses from the early s in order to give the film a "distant period feel.
I found a lot of photographs and magazines, and I knew that I wanted the blacks to be imbued with a tint of magenta.
McGarvey himself decided to shoot the film as if it were only 2D, because he dislikes working with 3D filming equipment and the experience of watching 3D films in theatres.
The U. Navy cooperated in the making of the movie and filming took place on three U. Army also participated in the movie with the support of three technical advisors.
Marine Corps , which had participated in the film, declined to participate after reviewing the script, which featured Navy personnel.
James D. Dever, one of the film's military technical advisers, to "ensure he had good military bearing". Dever also helped stuntmen train for high-altitude, low-opening jumps.
Director Gareth Edwards has said that he "intentionally placed humans in shots to give the scene a sense of scale, as everyone knows the size of a human, so we know the size of a creature or a building.
We would say 'Imagine it was a news story, or a sports event, cameramen would put cameras where they could in a hurry, and get any shot they could.
Especially when [Godzilla] is first seen, we wanted a build up, and then pan up, we see him, and then we don't see him.
I love that. Visual effects on the film were supervised by visual effects supervisor Jim Rygiel , best known for his work on The Lord of the Rings movie trilogy.
To create a CG version of Godzilla, MPC studied various animals such as bears, Komodo dragons, lizards, lions and wolves which helped the visual effects artists visualize Godzilla's body structure like that of its underlying bone, fat and muscle structure as well as the thickness and texture of its scale.
The production used high-quality panorama photos of the San Francisco skyline, and built a three-dimensional map of the city.
The map was used in the background of sequences shot on the bridge set in Vancouver. According to Jim Rygiel, "this technique gives you a real city that is accurate down to every piece of mortar in a brick building, so, using that, we were able to composite the live action shots with the key frame -animated monsters destroying digital buildings into a seamless whole.
The studio digitized actual military equipment from the 7th Infantry Division of the Army. The tracks were mixed by Gregg Landaker in the Dolby Atmos surround-sound format for exhibition in theaters with Atmos-equipped sound systems.
Film composer Alexandre Desplat was hired to compose an original soundtrack for Godzilla. Desplat accepted the contract after being impressed with Edwards' film Monsters.
Desplat describes the soundtrack for Godzilla as "non-stop fortissimo , with lots of brass, Japanese drums, and electric violin. The film score was released by WaterTower Music on May 12 and 13, The teaser trailer included a depiction of Godzilla faithful to the Toho monster, including its roar, and a "gigantic centipede-like monster.
Screenwriter Max Borenstein later confirmed that the centipede monster was conceived only for the teaser and only to indicate that Godzilla would fight another creature.
It was included in the teaser before Borenstein completed writing the script. During filming in Vancouver, Legendary released several videos and still pictures of filming in Vancouver on its Facebook site.
Pictures included a destroyed subway car with a green screen backdrop, soldiers inspecting a radioactive vault and wreckage on a shoreline.

Die Effekte und auch das 3D sind super und überzeugen auf ganzer Linie. Der Einsatz von mehreren Monstern bringt etwas mehr Abwechslung in den Film und liefert grandiose Action ähnlich wie Mehr erfahren.
Spike Spiegel. Der erste Trailer zu "Godzilla" war einer der besten Trailer der letzten Jahre. Zu schade, dass der Film eine komplette Mogelpackung ist.
Denn er handelt von dem amerikanischen Militär, von einer einzelnen Familie, von zwei riesigen Fledermausmonstern die sich paaren wollen, und von einer Zeitbombe; in dem Film geht es NICHT um Godzilla.
Er spielt zwar Die Vorzeichen waren atemberaubend, aber leider hat mich Godzilla etwas enttäuscht. Aber zunächst zu den positiven Seiten des Films.
Das fängt bei den sensationellen Animationen der Monster an. Diese wirken unfassbar echt und einfach nur genial. Godzilla selbst hat zwar vielleicht ein, zwei Kilo zu viel auf den Stephan Schär.
Wieder einmal komme ich aus dem Kino mit dem Gefühl "Schade, da war mehr drin". Grund dafür ist mal wieder das lückenhafte Drehbuch gespickt mit Logikfehlern
